Buyer Beware about "Lloyd's" service
We were quoted $140 for 4 people to be toured around Montigo Bay for 3 hours. 4 adults were crammed into a Toyota Camry. The 3 that had to sit in the back were obviously uncomfortable with the middle back person having to sit on the hump with their knees in their armpits. Obviously, this vehicle was not intended to tour 4 adults. The driver (said his name was Lloyd) drove downtown where the traffic lights weren't working then parked us close to some political gathering where people playing loud music and dancing in the streets waving neon green flags. He stops and tells us to get out and take pictures. Next he drives is to the rich side of town and drives through their neighborhood. As we are driving around Lloyd is telling us about how much money we could be making if we built a house and used it as an Air B&B in Jamaica. "But you must get the right guy to run it for you." He says for a $100,000 a person could build a 10-20 room Air B&B in Jamaica and "make crazy money." Not being born yesterday or knowing a Nigerian billionaire that needs a small loan, we didn't request formal information about the Air B&B industry in Jamaica. After that we stopped once to get an obscurred picture of the ocean between two of the houses. After this, "Lloyd" takes us to an over priced t-shirt/souvenir/coffee shop where "everything is 1/2 off". $80 sweatshirts marked down to $40. come on. after 45 mins there, we pile back into the Toyota Camry and he starts asking how much we bought, what we bought, etc... Well none of us bought much as it was overpriced even with 1/2 off. So when "Lloyd" hears that we didn't buy much, he starts up about how the trip we were taking was going to actually cost is $240-280 instead of the $140 we were quoted by an official at the dock. We told him, "No, we were quoted $140." For the next 45 mins "Lloyd" drove us all around the slum area of Montigo Bay continually explaining how the official that gave us the $140 quote was mistaken. At several points when we asked to be taken back to the boat, "Lloyd" was driving away from the boat. "We are avoiding traffic." When we questioned where he was going he said something about GPS and internet in Jamaica was bad and our phones were wrong. "You are safe" he kept saying. While i never felt that my life was in danger, all 4 of us crammed in that small car, felt very uncomfortable about our surroundings and felt like "Lloyd" was trying to scam us out of more money for the "tour". To recap, we drove around for an hour, stopped at a souvenir shop for 45 mins, then argued and drove the wrong way for 45 mins, finally arriving at the dock late. Luckily the official that quoted is $140 price for the "tour" talked to "Lloyd" and set him straight. While we were on the "tour" we asked Lloyd several questions about Montigo Bay and Jamaica, which he either had no answer or incorrect info. For example, we asked about Bob Marley (obviously) and "Lloyd" said he died in 1979. I'm assuming "Lloyd"must not have been a big Reggae fan? 🤷♂️ Sorry "Lloyd" no tip for you. Buyer beware on this "tour" business.
